8 Reasons Not To Go To London

Do you really think that London is a great place to visit? Let us tell you the real truth about this city. Here are 8 reasons why you shouldn’t come to London, based on some of the common stereotypes people have in this city.

1. The Weather is “Terrible”

Fog, rain and cold is everything you can expect from a visit to London. With average temperatures between 4°C to 9°C in the coldest months and 15°C to 23°C in the hottest months (with peaks of even 38C in 2019) get ready to freeze and get soaked all year round.

And the sun? What does that mean?

According to the Met Office Data rainy days in London count for 29% of the year, with 71% of the year being dry.

Washington DC, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, Miami, Florida and Mexico City all have more rainy days on average in any given year than London, but does this matter? Let’s keep thinking that the weather in London is terrible as we don’t want to attract even more tourists than the 20 million we already have, so please keep this a secret!

2. London Is “Grey and Chaotic”

Having been listed as the first national park city in the world, London is definitely not the place to come for lovers of nature and relax.

There are barely 300 green spaces in London and only 49.5% of the city is green and blue.

Unbearable to think that not even half of the city is covered by nature, isn’t it? Herds of deer, llamas, squirrels, parakeets, swans might get in your way whilst trying to get around London, so watch out and stay safe.

3. It Is Touristy

London is Europe’s capital for tourism with 20 million visitors every year. Try to travel during rush hour on the Central Line, try to walk down Oxford Street or Camden Market on a Saturday afternoon (particularly before Christmas) and you will definitely get what I am saying.

But is this really London? Even with its 20 million tourists, there is so much of London, that is way more fascinating than its most commercial spots, that is almost untouched by tourists and where you will feel as if you are in a completely different dimension.

So don’t follow the crowd and venture into the real London. You will be amazed by the incredible local communities and authentic places that you will find. Little Venice, The Isle of Dogs, the Knights Templars, Brixton, the City, Richmond, Wimbledon, Hampstead, Chelsea are just a few areas you can explore for a true London experience

4. London Skyline Is Boring

No need for many explanations for this, this picture says it all, how can people find this fascinating?

5. London Is Too Modern And Gentrified

London is only 1,976 years old, it all started from the Romans who founded the Londinium, what is now the City, around Bank, and from then it expanded bit by bit to become the metropolis we know today.

Ok, you can find Roman ruins, temples, amphitheatres, templars, secret crypts, churches, impressive historic monuments, war tunnels and ships dating back hundreds or thousands of years, but aside from this London doesn’t offer “much” in terms of history.

6. Music Lovers, Stay Away

Don’t be fooled by some of the few artists and musicians that are associated with London. Apart from the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Clash, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Adele, Robbie Williams, Amy Winehouse, Coldplay and a few (thousands) more, there are not many other artists linked to London.

During your stay in London, you might find some iconic music venues such as the Brixton Academy, Ronnie Scott, Royal Albert Hall, the O2, or you might find hundreds of specialised record stores or recording studios, but that’s pretty much it.

So unless you are a rock, jazz, pop, electro, reggae (and most other genres) lover we don’t recommend going to London for music as it would just be a waste of your time.

7. And not to Mention Its Street Art Scene

As with music, also street art in London is rather disappointing. Unless you are into Banksy, Jimmy C, Phlegm, Shepard Fairey, Dreph (and many more) you won’t find a lot in London.

Yet, if you are really looking for street art the 4 areas we recommend are Shoreditch, where there is the highest concentration of street art in London, Brixton with its beautiful historical murals, Waterloo with its renowned street art tunnel and Notting Hill, where you can find the first street art gallery in London and even a Banksy piece.

8. And On Top of all this Get Ready to Starve as Food Is Terrible

With its only 40,000 restaurants, the London food scene is very limited.

Don’t trust TripAdvisor reviews. Don’t bother with a nice Sunday roast in a quirky British pub, don’t try some of the best Ramen in town. Avoid all top-rated Chinese restaurants in China Town as well as any Italian, French, Afro-Caribbean, Lebanese or vegan places you find in town. Not to talk about the many top rated street food markets (from Brixton, Borough Market, Spitalfields and Tooting), they are all a waste of time.

Oh and absolutely avoid any afternoon teas, as you definitely don’t want to be stuck in a cosy tea room having to sip an earl grey accompanied by all sorts of delicious nibbles or cream tea.
